Back in October I wrote about an Indiegogo campaign to fund a public workout space in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley area. Now that space, in the area called PROXY in Hayes Valley, will celebrate its grand opening this Saturday, June 7th! So, if you live in San Francisco, stop by to check out the fitness park in action, take a fitness class, enjoy food and drinks and enter giveaways.
Everyone and anyone is invited to celebrate the grand-opening of Basic Training’s fitness hub at PROXY. Tickets are available on Eventbrite for $10 (and required in order to attend). Here’s the schedule of the day’s events:
- Basic Training classes every hour, on the hour, from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Food, music and open bar from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. (21+).
- 250 Limited-Edition Basic Training tees will be given away, courtesy of Alternative Apparel and Ape Do Good Printing.
- Enter to win prizes and a raffle with gifts from Aether Apparel, Basic Training, and Fitbit.
Jenn Pattee, founder and lead trainer of a San Francisco-based bootcamp called Basic Training, lead the charge on developing the fitness hub. She envisioned a free space where anyone can workout 24/7. Pattee hopes this will inspire other communities to fund similar projects and promote incorporating fitness into everyday life.
“The pop-up fitness hub includes a large exterior steel structure to support a 20-foot monkey bar wall, a bike locker with steel wrapping to work as ‘urban furniture’ used for jumping, as well as climbing poles and a GlobalTap water refill station,” explains the press release.
PROXY is located at 432 Octavia Street.
